Today, March 31, is World Colon Cancer Day, with the aim of raising awareness of the need to adopt healthy habits for the prevention of this tumor, as well as the importance of its early diagnosis.
More than 37,000 people a year are diagnosed with colorectal cancer in our country, being the most common cancer in both sexes, and being the second cause of death from cancer according to data from the Spanish Cancer Society (AECC). AECC.
The exact causes of colorectal cancer are not known in most cases, although it is known that there are some risk factors that favor its appearance, such as alcohol, tobacco, obesity, sedentary lifestyle and following an unhealthy diet rich in fats and poor in fresh fruits and vegetables.
In addition, as in other diseases, there is an important genetic and familial component. Up to 30% of colorectal cancer patients have at least one affected family member and some genetic diseases, such as Lynch syndrome.
We invite you to watch our webinar on the involvement of genetics in this type of cancer, the different associated diseases and their prevention.
