Preventive genetics

The value of information

Knowing the genetic predisposition allows establishing preventive strategies.

What is a preventive genetic study?

Predictive genetic testing can identify individuals with a genetic predisposition that puts them at increased risk for a disease before the onset of symptoms. These tests are very useful when a person has a family history of a particular disease and there is a method of intervention available to prevent the onset of that disease or to minimize its severity.

Our DG Preventive tests

DG Preventive is a set of preventive genetic studies that allow to know the genetic predisposition of a person to suffer from different hereditary diseases.

They have been developed by our team of geneticists based on the recommendations of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) and other scientific societies, such as the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM), the American Heart Association (AHA), the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the Spanish Fertility Society (SEF).

Accepted samples
  • EDTA blood (1x 5 ml)
  • Saliva (specific Isohelix kit)
  • Buccal exudate (2x sterile isopes)

Who should undergo genetic preventive testing?

DG Preventive Cardio analyzes genes associated with inherited cardiovascular disease, therefore, its performance is indicated in those who have a family history of cardiovascular disease.

Why is it important to take a preventive test?

Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide and up to 25% of sudden cardiac deaths are due to genetic abnormalities in genes responsible for the structure of the heart muscle or heart rhythm.

Early knowledge of the existence of mutations in genes related to these pathologies would allow the implementation of appropriate preventive measures and close follow-up of these patients by medical specialists.

DG Preventive Cancer studies genes related to different types of hereditary cancer, therefore, it is especially indicated for people with a family history of this pathology.

The types of cancer studied are:

Why is it important to take a preventive test?

Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the world. Epidemiological data demonstrate the importance of early diagnosis for patient survival. Thus, colorectal cancer and breast cancer, for example, have a five-year survival rate of 14% and 24%, respectively, when diagnosed at stage IV, while these percentages rise to 90% and 98%, respectively, when diagnosed at stage I.

In addition, up to 15% of cancers have a hereditary component, so performing a preventive genetic study can help to identify individuals with mutations in genes associated with the development of hereditary cancer, allowing early implementation of the necessary preventive and follow-up measures.

DG Preventive Essential analyzes the 81 actionable genes recommended for study by the ACMG (v3.2) that are related to high-incidence diseases, most of them cardiovascular disease and cancer.

Why is it important to take a preventive test?

Cardiovascular diseases and cancer are the two leading causes of death worldwide. Up to 15% of cancers are known to have an inherited genetic component and up to 25% of sudden cardiac deaths are due to genetic abnormalities in genes responsible for the structure of the heart muscle or heart rhythm.

A preventive genetic study can help to identify individuals with mutations in actionable genes to enable early implementation of the necessary preventive and follow-up measures.

DG Preventive Premium allows to know the risk of presenting different hereditary diseases, including cardiovascular diseases and cancer, as well as to know if you are a carrier of a monogenic recessive inherited disease and its risk of transmission to your offspring.

Why is it important to take a preventive test?

Cardiovascular diseases and cancer are the two leading causes of death worldwide with a hereditary component of up to 15% in cancer and up to 25% in cardiovascular diseases.

The performance of a preventive genetic study can help to identify individuals with mutations in actionable genes that allow the early implementation of therapeutic and/or preventive measures.

On the other hand, the study of recessive monogenic and X-linked diseases allows to know the carrier status of these pathologies and to obtain information about the risk of transmission to the offspring, allowing a correct family planning.
